Good day sunshine...

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

A couple of times a year, the Sun rises in between the arches of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. There is an excellent spot in Fort Desoto Park where you can watch the sunrise between the arched span of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The bridge crosses Tampa Bay and connects the Manatee and Pinellas counties in Florida.

I try to go at least once a year and photograph the event. Sometimes there are more clouds, and sometimes it's clear as anything! This year was a gorgeous morning at Fort DeSoto with a cool breeze and a warm sun. Just enough clouds to give a little interest.

Below are two images from the morning shoot.

The question I'm asked often is, "How do you find out about when this moment happens?" The answer is you have to do the research. Using various tools like Photo Pills, you can research the when and the where. Then it's a matter of finding out how to get there in time to catch the event.

Fort DeSoto opens a 7 AM every day. I have to arrive before the park opens and wait for the park to open. On this morning, the Sun was rising at 7:01 AM. So I had to hurry and get to the spot I had picked out and set up. Since I've done this before, the setup takes very little time.

It's a fun challenge, and each time it's unique.

The gallery below is from my previous visits over the last few years.
